When I started my writing career, it was actually out of frustration. So many sci-fi romances featured women abducted by aliens and thrown into situations beyond their control. I wondered: what if the heroine wanted to go into space? That simple question led to my first sci-fi romance series and eventually to 16 published books and novellas.
Then I began searching for my next project.
After reading market reports and diving into some incredible romantasy novels, I found myself completely captivated by magical worlds, dangerous fae, and epic romance. Before long, an idea started taking shape—one that felt deeply personal.
Why does every fantasy heroine have to be so young? Usually in their twenties or younger?
What about women who have already lived a little? Women who have loved, lost, made mistakes, and are still figuring out who they are?
That question became the heart of The Warden of Shadows.
My heroine, Elara, is a woman rebuilding her life after an unhappy marriage. She isn't searching for destiny. She's simply looking for a fresh start when she inherits a sentient Victorian house hiding a portal to the realm of the Fae.
Writing romantasy has challenged me in all the best ways. I switched to first-person POV, created an entirely new magical world, and developed a hero unlike anything I've written before. Yet in many ways, the process felt surprisingly familiar. Instead of inventing alien worlds, I was creating fae kingdoms. Instead of starships, I had magical portals.
And honestly? I love it.
Exploring this world feels like discovering a part of myself I never knew was missing. Wherever my writing journey leads next, I'm grateful I get to follow the stories that excite me most.
